Undine Smith Moore House

Historical Significance

Dr. Undine Smith Moore (1904-1989), composer, educator, and lecturer, taught piano, organ, and music theory at Virginia State University for 45 years.  Some of her former students went on to become some of the most outstanding black musicians in the country.  Dr. Moore's 16-part choral work, "Scenes from the Life of a Martyr", in honor of Martin Luther King Jr., was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize.
